A acao letal do nim sobre os ovos foi avaliada por meio da pulverizacao do produto, nas mesmas concentracoes do teste com chance de escolha, sobre ovos depositados na superfície das folhas de pl{acute}ntulas de café. Todas as concentracoes testadas causaram mortalidade significativa, a qual aumentou nas maiores doses (P mineiro que 0,05). Os efeitos somados da repel{ring}ncia de oviposicao e da acao ovicida, culminaram com 77 percentagem e 89 percentagem de reducao do número de lagartas eclodidas, quando solucoes de óleo emulsionável de nim a 0,125 percentagem e 0,25 percentagem, respectivamente, foram pulverizadas sobre as folhas de cafeeiro. Assim, embora ainda deva ser avaliado no campo, é possível que a pulverizacao do produto possa reduzir a colonizacao de L. coffeella em cafezais, evitando que altas populacoes da praga se instalem na lavoura.Summary: The effects of different concentrations of aqueous solutions of neem oil on egg laying and egg survival of Leucoptera coffeella (Guérin-Mèneville) were studied in laboratory conditions, as part of a project on neem utilisation for the management of the main pests in organic coffee. Aqueous solutions of neem oil were sprayed on coffee seedlings at concentrations varying from 0.125 percent to 2.5 percent and offered to L. coffeella adults in multiple choice and no-choice bioassays. A control group was sprayed with water. The number of eggs on the surface of the leaves of the coffee seedlings treated with neem oil aqueous solutions was significantly reduced (about 50 percent) in comparison with the control plants (P minor who 0.01). The lethal action of neem solutions on eggs was evaluated by spraying the same range of concentrations on the eggs deposited on the leaf surface of coffee seedlings. All concentrations tested promoted significant mortality, which increased with the dose (P minor who 0.05). The ovicidal effect added to the ovipositional deterrence reduced the number of larvae by 77 percent and 89 percent when neem oil solutions at 0.125 percent and 0.25 percent, respectively, were sprayed on the leaf surface. Therefore, although they require further field tests, sprays of the product could possibly reduce L. coffeella colonisation on coffee plants, thus preventing high pest populations from infesting the crops.
