The experimental design used was a randomized block in a factorial scheme with four replications. The plots were constituted of four rolls of "germitest" paper, containing 50 seeds per roll. The treatment used in the factorial scheme were 2 (seeds with or without endocarps) x 4 (pure water, 5 ppm, 10 ppm and 20 ppm of cytokinin - BAP) x 3 (1, 15 and 30 hours of soaking) with additionals which provided seeds, with and without endocarp, soaked in a solution of 20 ppm giberelin (GA3) for 30 hours, seeds with no soaking with mechanically withdrawn endocarp and seeds with and without endocarp in running water for 30 hours. Both radile protrusion and secondary roots emission were evaluated 20 days after the establishment of the experiment. To speed the germinating process, seeds must have the endocarp withdrawn such that the embryo may not be affected and must not undergo any kind of soaking. The increase of cytokinin (BAP) concentration, was hazardous to the secondary root emission of the seedlings.
