A negative balance in available K in the system suggests the higher requirement/uptake of K by both crops and its consequent importance in the nutrition of the arecanut-cacao system. Inclusion of Zn in the fertilizer schedule, especially if the crops are closely planted, is also desirable. In addition, the results showed the superiority of the spacing, viz. arecanut (3.3 x 3.3 m) - cacao (3.3 x 3.3 m) over arecanut (2.7 x 2.7 m) - cacao (2.7 x 5.4 m).
