An inventory was taken of the organic matter and nutrients (N, P, K, Ca, and Mg) separating the species into their compartments (leaves, branches, trunks and roots). Studies of the litter and of the mineral soil (0-45 cm) yielded these results: Theobroma under Cordia alliodora Vegetation + Litter and Vegetation + Soil: Organic matter (t.ha exponent -1) 50.3, 168.3, Nitrogen (kg.ha exponent -1) 446.4, 7991, Phosphorous (kg.ha exponent -1) 50.3, 3594, Potassium (kg.ha exponent -1) 373.4, 577, Calcium (kg.ha exponent -1) 473.0, 2410 and Magnesium (kg.ha exponent -1) 157.4, 551 respectively. Theobroma under Erythrina poeppigiana Vegetation + Litter and Vegetation + Soil: Organic matter (t.ha exponent -1) 39.2, 198.4, Nitrogen (kg.ha exponent -1) 498.8, 9555, Phosphorous (kg.ha exponent -1) 46.9, 3243, Potassium (kg.ha exponent -1) 315.9, 713, Calcium (kg.ha exponent -1) 433.5, 3082, Magnesium (kg.ha exponent -1) 118.4, 651 respectively. Patterns of nutrient accumulation are discussed in relation to the characteristics of these agroforestry systems.
