Publisher: México (México) 1985Description: resumen no. 147.Other Title: Study on the stability of resistance to Monilia roreri Cif. & Par. of cacao cultivars in two areas of Costa Rica.Subject(s): THEOBROMA CACAO | CULTIVARES | MONILIOPHTHORA RORERI | ENFERMEDADES FUNGOSAS | RESISTENCIA A LA ENFERMEDAD | INOCULACION | POLINIZACION MANUAL | TURRIALBA | COSTA RICA | THEOBROMA CACAO | CULTIVARS | FUNGAL DISEASES | DISEASE RESISTANCE | INOCULATION | COSTA RICA | THEOBROMA CACAO | CULTIVAR | MALADIE FONGIQUE | RESISTANCE AUX MALADIES | INOCULATION | COSTA RICASummary: Cacao cvs UF-296, EET-48, CATONGO EET-400, UF-29 and POUND-7 were evaluated for resistance to M. roreri at Turrialba (22 centigrade, 2638 mm) and La Lola (25 centigrade, 3574 mm). The cvs in tests at Turrialba were found resistant (2), intermediate (2) and susceptible (2), respectively. Sixty and forty five day-old pods from hand pollinated flowers were inoculated with a De Vilbiss atomizer with 10 exponent 4 and 10 exponent 5 conidia/ml. Internal and external disease severity and incidence were rated 9 wk after inoculation. Tests were carried out during three seasons: i) cool; ii) warm; and iii) intermediate. At Turrialba severity (30 percent) and incidence (48 percent) were higher during the intermediate season on sixty-day-old pods with 10 exponent 5 conidia/ml and cvs were resistant to susceptible as previously described. At La Lola higher severity (70 percent) and incidence (89 percent) ocurred during the cool season; both sixty and forty-five-day-old pods were similar in reaction to 10 exponent 5 conidia/ml and cvs varied from resistant to susceptible, having higher degrees of susceptibility, than at Turrialba
