A review of the literature on the relationship between financial institutions and economic development precedes an investigation of the evidence for Trinidad and Tobago, which reveals positive correlation between the two. An examination, at the macroeconomic level, of the impact of financial intermediaries points to unclarity regarding the extent of aid to the growth process
