The recent trends in application techniques in Japan are reviewed in this paper Ultra low volume spray was tried in aerial application using helicopter for operation efficiency. The method showed good control effects against pests and diseases in pad field, but the application was limited to only some pesticides because of difficulty preparing formulations of various pesticides. Low volume spray has recently been put in practice in order to increase variety of pesticides. Control of droplet size by preventing the evaporation loss was studied to reduce the drift hazard in LV spray. The addition of viscous auxiliary substances such as Aron-A(R) (Sodium polycrylate) decreased finer droplets when discharged from atomizer nozzle and consequently reduced the drift of the droplets. In ground application too, low volume spray has been tested for pest control including weed control in upland crops field and orchard
