Atividade microbiana em funcao da calagem em um solo cultivado com cofeeiro - 1995

A field experiment was set up in October 1988 in Londrina, State of Paraná, Brazil, to determine the effect of lime rates, on coffee yields in a clayey Typic Harplorthox. The treatments were: control pH4.0; lime to neutralize exchangeable Al; lime to increase base saturation to 70; and lime to neutralize buffer extractable acidity (H exponente + + Al exponente 3+). Thirty months after lime application, soil samples were collected for chemical and microbiological analysis. Liming increased pH, Ca, Mg, K, and P; decreased Al exponente 3+ and did not change the total organic carbon. On the other hand, the lime increased biomass-C, microbial -C / organic-C ratio, number of ammonifiers and nitrifiers microrganisms, ammonification rate and nitrification potential. Effects of lime were not observed on mycorrhizal soil spores and coffee root colonization. Both microbial-C/ organic-C ratio and nitrogen mineralization were found to be indicators of changes in organic matter quality with lime.
