Bismuth compounds as fungicides : - Nov 1985

++ Tabs. 9 ref. Sum. (En)

In Kenya, in vitro screening tests were conducted for 4 bismuth compounds (triphenyl) bismuth, trip(p-tolyl)bismuth, bismuth chlorosulphide and bismuth tri(8-hydroxyquinolate)) against coffee berry disease (CBD, caused by Colletotrichum coffeanum) and coffee leaf rust (Hemileia vastatrix) in arabica coffee. All 4 compounds showed some degree of control against H. vastatrix. Bismuth 8-hydroxyquinolate and bismuth chlorosulphide gave > 75 control at 0.9 and 1.0 active ingredient. Against CBD, only bismuth 8-hydroxyquinolate demonstrated a significant level of activity; at 0.4, it gave almost 80 inhibition of sporulation (96 at 1.0). (ATA 11(8):55939. 1986)
